Thursday 1 August: Sandfire Roadhouse Surprises

Before leaving Port Hedland this morning, we took a look at the port.

Tugboats were bustling out to several of the 25 ships we saw anchored offshore.

As we also did yesterday, today we again passed a number of mining sites. What could be more appropriate than listening to Simon Winchester's "Exactly", a history of the development of precision machinery.

And the surprise at Sandfire Roadhouse where we are spending the night? In its way it is a little oasis in the red Pilbara, with some unexpected residents.
