Tuesday 23 July: Pods, Squadrons, Flotillas, Schools, Fevers, Couples

We thought yesterday was pretty amazing, only for it to be topped by today. Snorkelling the inner and outer Ningaloo Reef provided a truly wonderful array of sights.

The day started at 7.15 and we were on the water for around 7 hours. A professional photographer accompanied us and so here are just a few of the shots below. There were a number of protocols and regulations that the tour operators and clients had to follow for the protection of the marine life, the coral, and ourselves, and there were guides at the front and rear of the group.

Two interactions are almost beyond words. The first was looking down at a mother humpback whale and her calf gliding below us just a few meters away. The second was coming across a a number of manta-rays and swimming behind them as they glided through the water.

In case you are wondering, Chops spent the day with Anita, who is one of the local people who offer dog-minding at Coral Bay. Apparently the first thing he did was jump on her bed while she was in the kitchen. She said he was a lovely boy.
