Thursday 4 July: Finding Nuggets

Today we are on the traditional lands of the Wangkatja group of peoples.

We hope you enjoyed Channel Chops. We're sure he'll back later in our journey.

Yesterday as we continued our travels through the Great Western Woodlands we passed Lake Cowan, a huge lake which seems to be mostly dry at present.

We spent today at Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie. Coolgardie advertises itself as a mining ghost town, but it was once the third largest town in Western Australia. It was founded in 1892 with the discovery of gold.

The main street in Coolgardie - Looking East

...And West

The discovery of rich veins of gold at Kalgoorlie in 1893 started the decline of Coolgardie. The mining of gold, along with other metals, has been a major industry in Kalgoorlie ever since. There certainly is no shortage of hotels. These four are more or less on four corners of the one intersection.

Away from the town, we had a great walk through the Kalgoorlie Arboretum.

Off to Kellerberrin tomorrow (where?), before hitting Aldi Fremantle on Saturday for a new milk frother.

The items replaced thus far are car battery, toaster and now, milk frother.

    1. I sense an undercurrent of Chops votes. A silent we want Chops we want Chops . No frothed makes it harder to pretend you are in a cafe.
Here’s something that might provide cheer. The Brit Tories have been thrashed. Tomorrow it will be 3 degrees to 12 C . Tell Chops we miss his comments .

    2. 3 to 12 degrees in Melbourne tomorrow. Remember you have left the top latte city of Melbourne. You may not be able to procure a frothed . Sorry.

    1. Fremantle? You will get great coffee there. If you have a chance, down South street there is La Vespa, Ootong Lincoln, then there are amazing bakeries - wild, little loaf(best cinnamon scrolls) - heck, even the coffee at South beach kiosk is pretty good. I would see quite a few vans parked there. Not sure if this is up Chops alley, but next door to south beach is the best dog beach ever at Coogee beach.
