Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 August: Larrawa Nature Park And Halls Creek
Today we are on the lands of the Jaru, Kija, Kukatja, Walmajarri, Gooniyandi peoples.
We are well into the Kimberley, and connectivity often alternates between 1 bar and nothing, so apologies for no blog yesterday. We stayed at Larrawa, a working cattle farm on Monday. It is several corrugated kilometres off Highway 1, with water and showers, but no power. This was a first for us, but our little caravan has battery and gas, so it isn't any hardship. The stillness was incredible and the vastness of the sky and stars can't help but make one feel the world could surely be a better place than it is currently. In the afternoon we had a delightful walk to Christmas Creek, and Gayle compared shots with another bird photographer whom we met.

Leaving Larrawa we had a relatively short drive to Halls Creek with its intertwined indigenous, pastoral and gold past and present. Its 1880s gold rush was short-lived, but it served to bring an influx of non-indigenous people into the area and establish the now abandoned town known as Old Halls Creek.
