Saturday 20 July: Coral Bay On Ningaloo Reef

The  Baiyungu, Thalanyji and Yinigurdira people are the traditional owners of Ningaloo Marine Park.

This morning we enjoyed Carnarvon hospitality with Bahn Xeo (rice pancakes) and locally grown produce and crafts. We also walked along the seawall memorial to the 645 crew of the HMAS Sydney (ll) who died on 19 November 1941 in a sea battle off the W.A. coast.

Each plaque records a crew member of the HMAS Sydney

The landscape dried out once we left Carnarvon, and we passed lots of termite hills.

Coral Bay is located adjacent to Ningaloo Reef, the world's largest fringing reef system and a World Heritage Site. Author Tim Winton lives in this region and has been tireless in defending the Reef from the predations of ‘developers’. He has a marvellous series on iView, Ningaloo Nyinggulu.

At the end of the day, we had time for a stroll at one of the many beaches.

We’ll be here for a few days so we’ll give our lovely readers a rest until we have a few things to report.:
  1. The menu gets more interesting with an Asian influence as you travel north.
Glad you all survived the floods.

  2. Catching up on the blog as I have been touring Toulouse and surrounding areas. The views just keep getting better, particularly love the crochet stall’s parrots, how gorgeous! 🥰
