Friday 19 July: We Make A Splash

Today we are on the lands Yinggarda people, who named this area Gwoonwardu, meaning 'neck of water'.

We had to negotiate a number of floodways after the heavy rains of yesterday. Needless to say we tried not to make a splash, unlike quite a number of vehicles.

Carnavon is 24 degrees South, almost into the tropics.  It supplies 80% of WA’s produce, growing over 30 different fruits, vegetables and herbs alongside bananas, mangos, tomatoes and table grapes.

Palm trees

Pawpaw trees

Banana trees

And of course, a somewhat Big Banana

Overnight here, then on to Coral Bay.
  1. Good to see the caravan didn’t float away. Did you try a famous Carnarvon banana?

    1. And a mango too!

  2. Was it a bit anxiety inducing navigating the waters? And I did not know that about Carnarvon.

  3. It can be risky to drive through even seemingly shallow waters. This trip is shaping up as quite adventurous. Be careful and take your orders from Chops.

  4. 24 degrees = very nice! Warm weather at last.

    1. Damn. I misread latitude as temperature!
